Jewelry to have by your 30th Birthday

Jewelry to have by your 30th Birthday

Most of us, myself especially, spent our 20's worrying about the start of life after finishing school.  Then came the continuous effort of trying to balance work and life while trying to squeeze in as much of that "life" as possible.  Friends, family, and travel are things that always rise to the top of that list.  Rarely do we ever think about owning a special piece of something that you will enjoy wearing on a daily basis without giving much thought.

Own something that you can wear 24-7 like a simple gold necklace with a beautiful stone or a simple gold band.  It will be your little "go to" something that you can comfortable wear to any occasion any time of the day.  Have it be meaningful, sentimental, and wear it with the thought of knowing you've earn it.  You've worked hard for an entire decade so treat yourself!

Length of necklaces and their names

Length of necklaces and their names

Collar, Choker, and Princess; Do you know the names associated with different types of necklaces?  The names used to describe each necklace is directly associated with how long they are.  So next time you hear your friends talking about a Lariat...you'll know exactly what they're talking about.

Necklace lengths are more personal preference rather than fashion requirements in this day and age.  You won’t get strange stares if you wear Opera beads in the middle of an afternoon unless you time traveled back to 1880.  So be creative and mix and match as you please.

13 to 16 inches are Collar & Choker

17 to 19 inches are Princess

20 to 24 inches are Matinee

28 to 32 inches are Opera

Over 45 inches are considered Lariat or Ropes

Wear the Amethyst. You can drink more!

Wear the Amethyst. You can drink more!

Beautiful, precious, legendary, and powerful.  These are some of the ways that many people throughout history may describe the Amethyst.  Once believed to be the “Gem of Fire” and worth as much as a diamond.  These magnificent stones stood the test of time and are still cherished today.

The birth stone of February babies, the Amethyst is thought to have the energy of fire and passion and creativity and spirituality.  Ancient Greeks and Romans believed that it had the power to prevent drunkenness.  Naturally they studded their goblets with these stones so they can drink more without getting drunk!  Today, it is believed that the Amethyst holds the power to still the mind and purifies the aura of any negative energy.  Wearing Amethyst will provide a protective shield of light around the wearer.  So if you want to be protected and drink as much as you want without getting drunk, try rocking some Amethyst!  Just in time for that New Year’s Eve Party…

As the year comes to an end, we want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  We have some great things coming in 2017 so stay tuned!

The Opal Stone

The Opal Stone

Oh, we love Opals at Minette! It shines, glows, and glimmers.  Ancient Romans believed it to be the most powerful gemstone because it contained all the colors of other stones.  It has been compared to volcanoes, galaxies, and even fireworks.  Looking into a beautiful Opal, I can imagine why some people would describe it that way.

Opals come in 5 different types.  White, Black, Fire, Boulder, and Crystal Opals all have different characteristics.  They are mined from Australia, Ethiopia, South America, Mexico, and the United States.

October babies rejoice!  The Opal is your birthstone.  Opal has always captivated the minds and senses of writers and mystics alike.  It has even been said that wearing an Opal will have the power to preserve the life and color of blond hair.  Lucky Blonds!

Special powers or not, Opals are beautiful.  We have some necklaces and new rings soon to be released loaded with Opals for you.  Hope everyone is having a great Holidays!

How to measure your finger

How to measure your finger

We’ve all been there.  Binge shopping in the wonderful world of the internet.  You come across and instantly fall in love with a ring that will change your life.  Then you come to realize you don’t know if it will fit!  Most people believe that in order to have your fingers sized for a ring, a jeweler is the only person you can turn to.  But that’s simply not the case.  Anyone can accurately measure their own finger size with some simple tools at home.

Things you’ll need

  1. A strip of paper or string
  2. A ruler
  3. A pen or pencil

 How to measure

  1. Wrap the strip of paper around the finger you want to measure
  2. Mark the area where the strip of paper or string meet.
  3. Measure the distance.
  4. Use the chart below to find your ring size

Things to remember

  1. Finger size shrink with changing temperatures. Make sure you do not measure when it is extremely cold or hot.
  2. Some people have bigger knuckles. Make sure that you accommodate so the ring will be able to slide onto the finger.
  3. When in doubt go bigger! You don’t want to end up at the emergency room with a stuck ring.

Now that you’re a pro and measured all ten of your fingers.  Happy shopping everyone!
